Velocity, Chance & P-Lock Lanes

Tap a track name in the step grid to expand the velocity lane below it. The lane shows a vertical bar for each step. Click the mode tabs to switch between 8 modes:

ModeFunction
VELPer-step velocity (volume)
CHNCTrigger probability 0–100%
VOLPer-step track volume (P-Lock)
PANPer-step pan position (P-Lock)
VERBPer-step reverb send (P-Lock)
DLYPer-step delay send (P-Lock)
GLTPer-step glitch send (P-Lock)
GRNPer-step granular send (P-Lock)

Drag a bar up/down to set the velocity (volume) of each hit. The bar height represents the value as a percentage.

  • Higher bar = louder hit
  • Range: 5%–100%
  • Use velocity variation to add groove and human feel

Tip: Accent the downbeats (steps 0, 4, 8, 12) at high velocity and ghost the off-beats at low velocity for a more natural feel.

Click the CHNC button (or Shift+drag a bar) to switch to chance mode. Bars turn blue. Drag up/down to set the trigger probability.

  • 100% — always triggers (default, shown when no chance is set)
  • 50% — triggers half the time
  • Lower values — proportional probability

Steps with chance set below 100% show a small blue diamond in the bottom-left corner of the step cell.

Chance creates generative variation — the same pattern sounds different each loop. Combined with the scene’s weighted edges, you can build arrangements that never repeat exactly.

P-Lock Lanes (VOL / PAN / VERB / DLY / GLT / GRN)

Section titled “P-Lock Lanes (VOL / PAN / VERB / DLY / GLT / GRN)”

The remaining 6 modes are per-step parameter locks (P-Locks). Each bar sets that parameter’s value for a single step, overriding the track-level setting.

  • Drag a bar up/down to set the value
  • Steps with P-Lock values show a teal-colored bar
  • The parameter map corresponds to the track-level knobs in the Dock panel (VOL, PAN, and the four send knobs)

Use case: Automate reverb send on specific steps for rhythmic wash effects, or pan individual hits across the stereo field.

TechniqueHow
Ghost notesSet hi-hat off-beats to 30–50% chance
Random fillsAdd fill hits at 15–25% chance on every step
Evolving groovesMix 80% and 60% across a pattern
Sparse texturesSet all steps to 10–20% for ambient percussion
  • Grid Mode — painting steps
  • Piano Roll — melodic editing
  • Voices — per-voice parameters affect how velocity is interpreted
